Christof Innerhofer
For many years the Italian alpine skiing team has included a big talent, the South Tyrolean Christof Innerhofer. His surprising win of the difficult World Cup downhill race on a completely icy slope in his native Bormio at the end of 2008 had already sparked the interest of several observers. Yet his star only rose in earnest in Garmisch-Partenkirchen where he became the most avid collector of medals at the 2011 World Ski Championship. The 27-year-old won gold in the super-G, finished the super combi as the runner-up and then took the bronze medal in the downhill discipline for good measure. As a result, the newspapers gave him the title Christof “Winnerhofer.” Not only his small home town of Gais bei Bruneck but all of South Tyrol was ecstatic for days. Like Christof himself, we at ALPINA could hardly believe our good fortune!
